For the lobby of the Keck Center at the National Academy of Sciences, Kirkland created three wall sculptures of granite and marble. The walls are engraved and etched with images that represent the sciences and man’s relationship with the environment, including Galileo’s star map, Darwin’s finches, a DNA double helix, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
